José Mourinho's Inter Milan completed an unprecedented treble in 2009-10 — Serie A, Coppa Italia and the Champions League — a combination no Italian club had ever achieved, capped by a commanding 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the final with two goals from Diego Milito. The squad had been substantially reshaped from the one Mourinho inherited the year before: Wesley Sneijder arrived from Real Madrid to control midfield with genuine creative quality, Samuel Eto'o was repurposed from a pure centre-forward into a tireless wide player as part of Mourinho's tactical setup, and Milito himself proved a shrewd signing, scoring the winning goals in both the Coppa Italia final and the Champions League final that same month. The semi-final victory over Pep Guardiola's Barcelona — widely considered one of the finest club sides in history at the time — required a near-perfect defensive performance from Inter across both legs, including playing over an hour with ten men at Camp Nou, and is still cited as one of Mourinho's tactical masterpieces. Mourinho left for Real Madrid immediately after the treble was completed, and no Inter side since has come close to replicating this level of sustained dominance.
